Professor Annie Bye & Ms Fleur Le Marne
Transition is a challenging time for an adolescent with epilepsy requiring care into adult years. A summary of the key medical literature will be given emphasizing the enormous challenges faced. The experience of Transition in Epilepsy at Sydney Children’s Hospital will be presented with a summary of resources available. Ms Fleur Le Marne, Epilepsy Educator, Researcher and Coordinator will describe the Adolescent Educational Day held biannually at Sydney Children’s Hospital alternating face to face and online.
Professor Bye has managed children and adolescents with Epilepsy for over 40 years. She has supervised a number of higher degrees and has over 100 publications. She has a particular interest in education and with Fleur Le Marne has created a number of resources for clinicians related to epilepsy and other areas. She has recently (November 2025) been awarded the Peter Bladin Award for services to Epilepsy in Australia. In 2016 she received an AM for services to paediatric neurology.
Ms Fleur Le Marne is a conjoint lecturer with the University of New South Wales Faculty of Medicine and Health currently employed by the Sydney Children’s Hospital in a research and education role. Her interdisciplinary research includes a focus on epilepsy, neurogenetics, comorbidities, health improvement and the provision of high quality educational resources for patients with epilepsy and the caregivers of children with severe neurodevelopmental conditions, along with the clinicians involved in their care.
